The International Champions Cup continues this Wednesday, July 27th as German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich take on AC Milan of the Italian Serie A at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The 17-team International Cup tournament will be taking place at sites in China, the USA, Europe and Australia. Teams involved are Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and FC Barcelona (Spain), Paris Saint-Germain (France), AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan (Italy), FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Chelsea FC, Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool FC (England), Celtic FC (Scotland) and Melbourne Victory of Australia. If the game ends in a draw it will be decided by a penalty shootout.

FC Bayern Munich – A Closer Look:
This is the third preseason outing for Bayern Munich after beating SV Lippstadt 4-3 in their first game, Manchester City 1-0 in their second and SpVgg Landshut 3-0 last Friday. Once again Dutch international winger Arjen Robben has shown how injury prone he is as he was hurt during the match against Lippstadt and will be out of action for the next six weeks. New manager Carlo Ancelotti of Italy has added some new players to his championship squad as German international Mats Hummels and 18-year-old Portuguese international sensation Renato Sanches have been acquired. Bayern won the Bundesliga title last year with a record of 28 wins, four draws and two losses for 88 points. They finished 10 points ahead of runners up Borussia Dortmund and scored 80 goals while allowing 17 against. Bayern is Germany’s most successful soccer club with a total of 26 domestic championships and 18 national cups. The team was formed in 1900 and has won five European Cup/Champions League titles along with a UEFA Cup, a European Cup Winners’ Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and a pair of Intercontinental Cups.
AC Milan – A Closer Look:
Associazione Calcio Milan (AC Milan) has been around since 1899 and has competed in the top flight of Italian soccer for all but two seasons. The Serie A club has won a combined 18 international titles making it one of the most successful on the planet. AC Milan has captured three Intercontinental Cups along with a FIFA Club World Cup and seven European Cup/Champions League titles. They’ve also won five UEFA Super Cups and a pair of UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups. In fact, the team has won a championship in every single major competition it’s competed in other than the Europa League. Domestically, AC Milan has won 18 Italian league championships, which is second to the 32 Juventus has won. They’ve also won five Coppa Italia’s and six Supercoppa Italiana titles. AC Milan finished in seventh place in last year’s Serie A with 57 points from 15 wins, 12 draws and 11 losses with 49 goals scored and 43 allowed. They were 32 points behind champions Juventus. AC Milan beat French Ligue 1 team FC Girondins de Bordeaux 2-1 on July 17th in their first preseason contest. It was the first game in charge for new manager Vincenzo Montella, who is the seventh manager at AC Milan since 2014.

This is the first 2016 ICC tournament game for the two teams. It will be a good test for two of Europe’s top clubs as they prepare for the upcoming European and domestic campaigns.

Teams involved are Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and FC Barcelona (Spain), Paris Saint-Germain (France), AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan (Italy), FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Chelsea FC, Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool FC (England), Celtic FC (Scotland) and Melbourne Victory of Australia. This is the first time Celtic and Leicester will be meeting each other.
