  • These two clubs last met in league action back in the 2014/15 season. They drew 0-0 at Burnley with Man United taking their home game 3-1. Burnley has just one win in the last 21 encounters, which was a 1-0 home league win in August of 2009. They’ve lost 12 of those past 21 games and drawn the other eight. Overall, the sides have met 122 times in the past with Man United winning 58, losing 44 and drawing the other 20.

Manchester United – A Closer Look:

Manchester United sits in seventh place in the Premier League after nine matches with 14 points on four wins, two draws and three defeats. United has 13 goals to their name and has allowed eight against. Their last Premier League outing resulted in a 4-0 beat down by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London last Sunday. United won their first three league games of the season, but has just won win in their past six league outings along with three defeats and a pair of draws. These include a pair of victories in the Europa League as well as beating Northampton and Man City in the League Cup. Jose Mourinho has a few players listed on the squad’s on the injury list. Forward James Wilson may miss the entire season after undergoing knee surgery while defender Phil Jones also has a knee problem and isn’t expected back until the end of the month. Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is back in training, but is questionable for the game. Defender Eric Bailly was substituted against Chelsea due to an injury and he’s also very doubtful for the contest while forwards Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are question marks.

Burnley FC– A Closer Look:

Burnley enters the weekend in 14th place in the 20-team Premier League with 10 points from three wins, a draw and five defeats. They’ve scored eight goals and allowed 13 against. Burnley sits 10 points behind the league leaders, nine back of fourth place and are just three points ahead of the relegation zone. Burnley could be missing some key players at Old Trafford since forwards George Boyd and Ashley Barnes are both questionable and along with midfielder Steven Defour.

Burnley snapped their two-game losing drought last week over Everton. Welsh international forward Sam Vokes put Burnley in front after 39 minutes, but midfielder Yannick Bolasie of Congo tied the contest for Everton in the 58th minute. Burnley managed to snag all three points just before the final whistle blew when striker Scott Arfield found the back of the net for the home side.

Manchester United vs Burnley – Takeaway:

With just one loss to Burnley in their last 21 meetings, United has to win this game to get back in the hunt for a top-four spot this season. Burnley will be happy with a draw here and that could lead to an uneventful contest.
