Leicester City will surprisingly be aiming for their third straight win of the new English Premier League this Saturday, August 22 when they host Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium. Leicester got hot at the end of last season and managed to avoid relegation and have kicked off the 2015/16 campaign right where they left off. The club won their season opener 4-2 at home against Sunderland and then followed it up with a 2-1 win on the road over West Ham last week. Spurs opened the campaign with a 1-0 loss to Man United at Old Trafford after Kyle Walker scored in his own net. They then blew a 2-0 lead against Stoke City at home at White Hart Lane and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Stoke scoring twice in the last 15 minutes.

  • Spurs beat Leicester 4-3 at home in a thriller last season and also edged them 2-1 at home. The clubs met in an FA Cup encounter last season as well with Leicester exacting some revenge with a 2-1 win on the road in London. They also beat Spurs in the FA Cup 3-2 back in 2006. In their last six meetings, Leicester has two wins and a draw along with three defeats. Overall, the two teams have met 102 times in the past with Spurs winning 51 games, losing 33 and drawing the remaining 18.

Leicester is one of four of the 20 Premier League clubs that have won both of their league games so far this season. Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are the other teams with perfect records after just two outings. They’ve scored five goals so far this season with five of them coming in the first half. This shows they’ve been well prepared to play right from the opening whistle. Algerian international forward Riyad Mahrez has been leading the way offensively with half of Leicester’s six-goal goal tally.

The club is on quite a hot run in the Premier League dating back to last season with nine victories in their last 11 matches. However, last year’s strong finish to the season wasn’t enough to save Nigel Pearson’s job and he was fired from his manager’s position during the offseason. Taking over the reins this year is former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri of Italy.

Spurs were perhaps unlucky in their season opener at Old Trafford as they created more scoring opportunities than Man United, but were beaten 1-0 due to Walker’s unfortunate own goal. However, they can own blame themselves for throwing away last week’s game against Stoke after jumping into a 2-0 lead at home. Spurs took the lead through first-half goals by Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli. However, manager Mauricio Pochettino thought he’d be clever and try to sit on the lead.

Pochettino substituted Spurs’ top scorer Harry Kane and then paid for the move dearly as Stoke scored twice in the last 12 minutes to make sure Tottenham dropped a pair of points. It’s a mistake Pochettino is unlikely to make again in the near future whenever his team gets a lead. Leicester vs Spurs games usually feature at least one goal by each side and this contest should be no different. In fact, this affair could turn out to be one of the weekend’s most exciting.
